Advanced standing
Advanced standing may be requested for courses that the student has successfully completed at another institution. Students will be required to provide FSTM with all official transcripts and any supporting documents required for evaluations of Advanced Standing. Advanced standing requests for all courses are evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine whether or not the credits awarded and material covered is comparable to the courses offered at FSTM.
As mandated in Florida Statute 467, students must attend a minimum of two years of the three-year training program.
These most commonly requested advanced standing courses include:
Anatomy & Physiology I + Lab
Anatomy & Physiology II + Lab
Microbiology for Midwives + Lab
The following courses are not eligible for advanced standing at FSTM:
1108 Cultural Humility
FSTM Midwifery Core Classes (1303 Antepartum, 2103 Intrapartum, 2203 Postpartum, 2206 Newborn)
2204 Suturing for Midwives
3106 Obstetric Complications
3202L Clinical Skills Practicum Lab
If you will be requesting Advanced Standing credit, you will be able to submit this form after you have been accepted into the program and submitted the enrollment contract. Advanced Standing requests will not be accepted prior to program acceptance or after the start of your first academic semester.
Please note that because advanced standing reduces the number of credits registered for, it may affect student financial aid eligibility.
If you have completed course work at another midwifery school and intend to transfer to FSTM, please view our program curriculum to assess how previously completed coursework may impact your registration at FSTM. Please note that not all midwifery school curriculums align and the order of course enrollment at FSTM may require the student to complete all nine semesters of the three-year program.
